The Hilton Central School District
is a PreK-12 public school system in New York State in
Monroe County northwest of Rochester, NY. Often noted as a destination district in this region, families choose this community to live in due to the
quality of education children receive, the
International Baccalaureate Diploma at Hilton High
School and the Primary Years Programme at Quest
Elementary.

New/Transfer Student Registration - Families
of transfer students and new registrants may come to Hilton
Central School District Learning Support Services Office, 225
West Ave., Hilton, NY 14468. Call for an appointment at 585-392-1000
ext. 7031/6072 -- Online:
New/Transfer Student Registration forms are online or will
be sent prior to the appointment. Parents/guardians should
bring: birth certificate; immunization record; child's social
security number; custody and/or guardianship papers when applicable
or fill out our natural parent questionnaire form; proof of
residency [deed, builder's contract, rent receipt, two bills
showing name and address such as utilities; and address of last
school attended [copy of previous school's report card or academic
record is helpful]. Each year a CENSUS is taken.

School Physicals and Immunizations - All students entering
kindergarten, second, fourth and
seventh grades are required
by New York State Education Department to have a physical exam.
This is best accomplished by your child’s own health care provider.
Health Appraisals must be dated September
1 or later.
Health appraisals must be submitted to school
nurse by the first 14 days of school entry. If this is
not possible call the school nurse to let her know of your intention
to schedule a date with your own doctor or our school health
care provider.
Immunization Requirements for entering Hilton Central
Schools. For further information:
NYS Health Department Immunizations
Mandated Health Screenings -
New York State mandates that health related
screening be completed in schools each year. The
requirements are for new entrants include vision screening,
hearing screening, scoliosis. If there are any
usual findings, or cause for concern, the school nurse will
contact parents. In the event that additional evaluation is
needed, a referral form will be sent home to take to your
private healthcare provider.
Student Records/Release of Information to Military, etc. [FERPA]
Family Educational
Rights and Privacy Act [FERPA] affords parents and students
over 18 certain rights with respect to the students educational
records. For further information from the US. Dept. of Education:
US Dept. of Education FERPA Within the school
setting, FERPA continues to govern the exchange of health
care information that is contained in the student’s
educational record. It is not necessary to obtain a release
of information from a parent or guardian in order to share
such information with school staff for the purposes of
insuring the best and most appropriate care for a student.

Student Physicals Required New York State Law requires
physical examinations be completed in grades K, 2, 4, 7 and
10 as well as new entrants to the school. Please print

Health
appraisal Form
Health Information Portability and Accountability Act [ HIPAA]
- HIPAA
regulations affect the nature of the exchange of information from
the student’s health care provider TO the school. Previous informal
exchanges between health providers and school health staff are
no longer permitted; explicit written authorization is required
from the parent or guardian in order for information to flow
to the school. For example, immunization records require such
authorization.
Kindergarten Registration - Children are
eligible to enroll in Hilton Schools' kindergarten if their
fifth birthday falls on or before December 1 following the
start of school in September. Hilton Central has
full-day kindergarten. To register your child, you
will need: original birth certificate, proof of residency,
social security card and proof of immunization are
required. Families living in the District at the time of
the annual census [June] will receive registration
information in the mail in early winter. Kindergarten
registration is held generally in March at each Hilton
elementary school.
Kindergarten Registration
Pre-Kindergarten program for four-year-olds in the Hilton
School District began September 2007 for 64 students. The five-day
a week, half-day session meets for two and a half hours per
day with transportation provided by parents. Children who are turning four-years-old
by December 2008 are eligible to attend. Letters to all eligible
families will be mailed as soon as the program numbers are finalized.

Some community-based providers are offering pre-kindergarten
in conjunction with the District and under all NYS laws and
guidelines. Pre-kindergarten
Quest Elementary School of
Choice
Applications for the the Quest Elementary School, an authorized
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, are due
in late February. Letters from the Quest Elementary School of choice
are mailed out in January describing the school's application
process. All children who reside in the Hilton Central School
District are eligible to attend Quest regardless of where they
live in the District.
Elementary School Attendance Boundary The boundary line for attendance at the Village or Northwood
Elementary schools is generally Rt. 261, Manitou Rd. All
residents of the Town of Greece are in the Northwood Elementary
School boundary area with some additional private drives off
Manitou Rd. For further information about school boundaries,

For information about Hilton's pre-school [birth to age five]
screening due to a possible developmental delay, please call

Transportation Hilton students are bused in all grades except those students
in grades 7-12 who live less than 0.9 mi. from Hilton High School
or 0.6 mi. from Merton Williams Middle School within the village
of Hilton. All designated walkers have sidewalks available.
Application requests for transportation of non-handicapped students
to private/parochial schools must be made by April 1 of each
year. Child Care Transportation Request applications must be
filed each year before July 1 for transportation to childcare
locations other than the home. Transportation of private and
parochial school students outside the District is provided up
to a maximum of 15 miles. Transportation for handicapped
students is provided a maximum of 50 miles from the District.

Learning Support Services
The Hilton Office of
Learning Support Services/Special
Education is located in the District Offices, 225 West Ave.,
Hilton. Director of Special Education is

In addition there is a Committee on Special Education (CSE).
Each of Hilton's schools have Extended Committee on Special
Education (ECSE), integral components in the identification
and servicing of students with specialized needs within the
least restrictive environment.

Safety Issues in Schools
- Hilton's Security Department and youth assistants monitor
the safety of the school campus everyday. The issue of
safety and security of students has taken on new dimensions
in the post-Columbine and post September 11 school environment.
New York State Education Department and the N.Y.S. Legislature
have renewed efforts to strengthen safety and emergency planning
on the part of all school districts in the state as well as
increase penalties for crimes such as calling in a bomb threat
to a school:

for False Bomb Threat to Schools. The Hilton School District
and Board of Education continually review practices and procedures
from the perspective of building safety and security; student
management; and presence of security personnel on a yearly
basis. The Hilton
Board of Education approved a policy for using video surveillance

Food Service - Hilton's District-operated, award-winning
Food Service program offers nutritious lunches for students in grades
one through twelve every day. Hilton's food service staff prepares
and serves, on the average, 2,000 lunches per day. During the
school year about 350,000 lunches are served. School lunches
are subsidized by the State and Federal governments to help
schools keep the cost per lunch low so most students may participate
in the program. Additional subsidies are available for families
who are eligible for the
Free-Reduced Price Meals - Application.

Community [Continuing] Education
- Hilton's Community Education program offers a variety of courses
beginning in the fall and winter. Anyone 16 years-old or older
is eligible to register with preference given to Hilton School
District residents, but open to everyone [no extra fee for
out-of-district residents]. District residents
age 55 or older may register for a GAP [Golden Age Pass]
which allows free/discounted courses.
A complete listing of courses is mailed to all District residents
in August and in December. Swim classes and water aerobics
are offered by Hilton Community Education as well as
Hilton-Parma Recreation at the
Hilton Aquatic

Interscholastic Sports Hilton Cadets
Interscholastic Sports - Hilton students may participate
in interscholastic sports programs beginning in the seventh
grade. Admission fees: $2 - adults all events; $1 -
students; Free - preschoolers and K-6 students if
accompanied by a parent or adult; GAP pass-holders free to
all home events except Sect. V events. Sports
