Hilton High School students "Talk IB"

Hilton High School received approval for acceptance into the IB Diploma Programme in 2002 from the IB Organization.  The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous, two-year, pre-university course of study.  It is a comprehensive, balanced curriculum that incorporates high standards of assessment.  With a focus on international understanding and communication, the IB Diploma Programme meets the needs of highly-motivated students.  IB Course Certificates are also offered as well as a IB English for all students in their junior year.  IB is integrated with current and expanded Advanced Placement courses.  Additional work is is required in Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Action and Services and a required 4,000-word Extended Essay.

 

What is IB?

IB Diploma Requirements: Students study six areas concurrently: Language 1A [English]; Second Language [French or Spanish]; Individuals and Societies [IB History of the Americas]; Experimental Science [IB Biology]; Mathematics [IB Math, IB Math Studies]; Arts and Electives [IB Music, IB Visual Arts, IB Psychology, IB Information Technology in a Global Society]; IB Computer Science; additional requirements - Theory of Knowledge [two-semester course which stimulates critical reflection on knowledge gained inside and outside the classroom]; Extended Essay [a 4,000-word research essay under the guidance of a mentor], Creativity, Action, Service [50 hrs. in each area outside the school day].
