Language and Literature or IB Literature
Beginning in September 2011, Hilton
High School is offering either the International

Literature course to all English 11 students.
An IB World School, Hilton High School has been
offering IB Diplomas since 2005. Forty

IB Diploma Recipients from Hilton High School since
2005.
The IB Programme's Language A1
course is intended to work with students to help them look
at literature and a variety of literary materials in order
to analyze them from multiple perspectives. An
important part of the course is the examination of work
produced in other languages and cultures which will
encourage students to reflect on and address their own
cultural assumptions. Along with this, issues ranging
from gender, power and identity and they figure into
political pressure and censorship, the role of the
individual and family in society and other concepts will be
considered throughout the course. From the Hilton
High School
PROGRAM OF STUDIES 2012-13 .
Assessments include a variety of
written and verbal tasks designed to prepare students for
success beyond high school as well as meet New York State
and District English Language Arts standards.
Part of the benefit of this course is
that it is the first part of a two-year sequence leading to
an IB Certificate in Language and Literature. Students
taking both years [junior and senior years] of the IB
Language and Literature course are eligible to take the IB
exam and if successful, earn an IB certificate.
