Hilton Central School District
homeowners' property tax information
- Hilton Central
School District homeowners may be eligible for partial
property tax exemptions under several state programs
including these listed below. The STAR program provides
partial tax exemptions from school property taxes for owners
of residential property provided the property is an
owner-occupied primary residence. The 'Basic' STAR
exemption applies to homeowners regardless of age or income.
Homeowners do not need to reapply each year unless their
primary residence changes. The 'Enhanced' STAR
exemption applies to senior citizens age 65 and older with a
household adjusted gross income not above $79,050. IRA
income can be deducted in determining income.
Applicants must reapply each year to keep the enhanced
exemption in effect unless they have enrolled in the NYS
Automatic Renewal Program. Senior citizen [age 65 and
up] and disabled residents of the Hilton CSD may also be
eligible for the 'Aged Exemption' which has a sliding scale
determined by the Hilton Board of Education.
The New York State School Tax Relief Program (STAR)
provides homeowners with two types of partial exemptions
from school property taxes. If you earn less than
$500,000 and own and live in your home, you're probably
eligible for the STAR exemption.
Applications are due March 1 and are available from the
Assessors' offices.
