Director of Hilton High School
Percussion Ensemble Tim Stodd
Tim Stodd holds a Master of Music from
the Eastman School, and a Bachelor of Music from the
University of Oregon. He is currently instrumental music
teacher in the Hilton Central School District in Hilton, NY
at Northwood Elementary School. He also serves as the
President for the New York State Percussion Circuit – an
organization founded in 1994, and is the Percussion Caption
Head for The New York Federation of contest Judges.
A former faculty member of SUNY Geneseo,
Mr. Stodd established the Geneseo Percussion Ensemble in
1986, and served as Adjunct Professor of Percussion for the
following ten years. He also served as Percussion Caption
Head and/or Percussion Arranger for the Empire Statesmen
Drum and Bugle Corps from 1985-2001, 2004, and the
Percussion Caption Head/Arranger for the Rochester Crusaders
Drum and Bugle Corps in 2003. Since 1995, Mr. Stodd has
directed the Hilton High School Percussion Ensemble and has
led the group to nine New York State Percussion Circuit
Championship Titles. In 2006, Hilton High School was a WGI
World PSA Finalist.
An experienced performer, Mr. Stodd has
recorded for RCA Victor, CBS Masterworks, CBS Sony in Japan,
and the National Television of Portugal. Among other
highlights, Mr. Stodd was the timpanist on Wynton Marsalis’
Carnival – a Grammy-nominated recording. He is also the
percussionist with the Flower City Society Orchestra, a
group which performs period music for silent films. As a
member of the FCSO, Mr. Stodd has recorded for Turner
Classic Movies, and performed in Italy as part of the
International Silent Film Festival. Mr. Stodd is an
active clinician and has adjudicated for DCI, WGI, YEA,
NYSFBC, NYSSMA, and others. In academic year 2005-2006, he
was a clinician for the New York State School Music
Association Annual Winter Conference, and for the Percussive
Arts Society Western NY Day of Percussion.
He has been featured in Drum Corps
World, has written articles for The Rudimental
Percussionist, and is published with G. Schirmer, Inc. Mr.
Stodd resides in Rochester, NY with his wife Shelly.
