Northwood Elementary First LEGO League Robotics
Team participates in qualifying tournament at
Churchville-Chili Nov. 19
Northwood Elementary School stude nts'
First LEGO League Team, the "Robo Cadets," participated in the 2011
Qualifying Tournament at Churchville-Chili on
November 19, 2011 according to Northwood REACH teacher and
First LEGO League Robotics Coach Ed Donnelly. Teams
explore an actual problem that today's scientists and
engineers are trying to solve, develop an innovative
solution to that problem, and share their findings. Teams from around Monroe County tested
robots that they designed and built out of LEGO pieces which
were required to perform a variety of tasks such as "Robot
Game Matches" which required skill in building and strategy
in a very public performance.
Student teams were charged with
improving the quality of food by finding ways to prevent
food contamination:
2011 Food Factor Challenge Students build LEGO
robots based on a knowledge of food safety in order to
minimize possible points of contamination our food
encounters – from exposure to insects and creatures, to
unsterile processing and transportation, to unsanitary
preparation and storage – then find ways to prevent or
combat these contaminates. In the Food Factor Challenge,
teams will build, test, and program an autonomous robot
using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT to solve a set of Food Safety
missions as well as research, develop, and share their
innovative food safety solutions.
