Quest Elementary student returns after bone marrow
transplant
May 2, 2012
June 8, 2012 Eli comes to teacher
Carol Jones' classroom two, half-days per week. He just
returned from "Make a Wish" trip to DisneyWorld.

Quest Elementary primary student, Eli Lana, returned to school for the first time May 2 to the
encouragement and support of his classmates and teacher s.
His fight
with a rare disease, Fanconi Anemia or FA,
required him to have a bone marrow transplant last year. He
missed half of kindergarten and all of his first year in
primary up until now. He is going to begin with a few
half days a week in teacher Carol Jones’ classroom. His
first official half day is May 3, 2012.
While in Cincinnati Children's Medical Center receiving
treatment, he was given an authentic “ten gallon hat” about
which he promptly wrote a song with help from musician and
staff member Mary Hilderbrandt who added a few touches and set it to
music. She played “Eli’s song” for students on Wednesday,
May 2, along with a slideshow of some of the artwork,
letters and cards our students made for him.

July 30, 2011 was Day
+100 for Eli Lana who had his
bone marrow transplant 100 days ago. Your outreach,
cards and gifts have meant so much to the Lana
family! If everything remains stable, Eli is
scheduled to return home this month!! This is
excellent news! Upon return he will require weekly
visits and monitoring at Strong as his immune system
continues to strengthen. Eli will also return to
Cincinnati every two weeks to every month for the
next several months. Eli has had an amazing journey
and his Quest family has supported him all the way!
In honor of his 100 Day Celebration we are asking
everyone to consider Storybird Fundraiser For Eli
Lana participating in a summer fundraiser through
www.storybird.com
Between August 15th- September 15th Quest students
are encouraged to login to Storybird, write a story
using provided artwork, and purchase a copy of their
book. They are beautiful keepsakes and can be used
for birthdays, anniversaries and other special
occasions. For every hard copy that is purchased,
Storybird will donate $5 to Eli's family for the
excessive costs of caring for a child with Fanconi
Anemia. If you would like to volunteer before
the fundraiser on August 15th please email Stephanie
Harney
sharney@rochester.rr.com for more info. We
do need helpers to enter class names into the
Storybird database. Wishing continued growth and
health to Eli and support to his family during this
next transition. Sincerely, Stephanie Harney
