For the Second Year Eric Fontanez places first in High Jump at NYSPHSAA States Meet: Sect. V Sportsmanship Award winner; named All-American

Hilton High School high jumper Eric Fontanez was crowned NY State champion for the second year in the high jump Mar. 7, 2009 at Cornell U clearing 6'8", his best for Indoor Track and equaling his best ever. Eric also received the Section V Sportsmanship award which is voted on by coaches. Eric continued his success this indoor season by capturing ALL AMERICAN honors. He was at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships Mar. 14 in New York City. The top six in each event earn All American honors. He placed sixth in the high jump. He tied for fourth with two others, but they beat him on the tiebreakers.  Eric also received the Section V Sportsmanship award which is voted on by coaches. His coach is Jeff Merkel. 

He joins Alison Sawyer and Caroline Shultz as the only track All Americans from Hilton.
