Northwood Elementary School holds 16th
Annual Flag Day Ceremony; tradition begun by Assistant
Principal Bolinger
Hilton's Northwood Elementary
School celebrated
its 16th Annual Flag Day Thursday, June 14, 2012, a
tradition created by Assistant Principal Karen
Bolinger who will retire this year. Students,
teachers, staff and area veterans and their families
were in attendance as well as civic leaders from
Hilton, Parma, Greece and Monroe County including
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks who presented
service awards. Veterans raised the flag and
honored the colors.
The flag was presented by US Army
Captain Brad Helmer [Retired], US Marine Corps 1st Sgt. Joseph Migliore
and US Army SPC John Romansky.
Assistant Principal Karen Bolinger,
mistress-of-ceremonies, was presented with a flag by
Northwood Teacher Amy Jensen-Helmer which flew over Iraq.
The special guest speaker was SPC John Romansky and student
essays were read by Joshua Radler, Haley Mojsej, Emily
Marino and Emma Neary.
Students recited the Pledge of
Allegiance, sang patriotic songs and the Northwood Advanced
Band played patriotic selections.
Students were dressed in red, white and
blue; held hand-made and other flags.
