High School All-American Eric Fontanez
signs letter of intent to run Track and Field at Div. I
UConn
Hilton High School senior Eric Fontanez
signed a Division I letter of intent to run track and field
at the University of
Connecticut on May 22, 2009 at the Hilton High School
gymnasium. He was congratulated by his HHS track and
field teammates, his family, and Hilton HS administrators
including Athletic Director Michael Giruzzi and Cadets Track
and Field coach Jeff Merkel. Eric was NY State
champion for the second year in the high jump clearing 6'8"
at Cornell U clearing Mar. 7, 2009, his best for Indoor
Track and equaling his best ever.

Eric continued his success this indoor
season by capturing ALL AMERICAN honors. He participated in
the National Scholastic Indoor Championships Mar. 14, 2009
in New York City. The top six in each event earn All
American honors. He placed sixth in the high jump.
Eric also received the Section V Sportsmanship award which
is voted on by coaches.
Eric is crowned NYSPHAAA State champion
in the High Jump, with a Jump of 6'8" at left, at
Cicero-North Syracuse on June 13, 2009.
He joins HHS graduates Alison Sawyer
and Caroline Shultz as the only track All Americans from
Hilton.
