Schwind '08 drafted by Pittsburgh
Pirates Baseball
Jon Schwind, '08 HHS and junior
at Marist College, was drafted by the Pittsburgh
Pirates to day.
Selected in the 41st round (1,232nd overall), Schwind, has played the past two seasons as
shortstop, second and third base, plus center field
and right field. When they drafted him, they
listed him as a catcher according to media reports
in Rochester.
"The last time I caught was after my
senior year (in high school) in Legion ball and before that
was in middle school," he said, "but I'm willing to play
wherever they want me." Schwind batted .287 as a junior with
five home runs, 32 RBI and 47 runs. He hit .346 as a
sophomore (four HR, 42 RBI, 39 runs).
Last fall Schwind was named as the
number two prospect of those who played summer 2010 in
the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) by Baseball
America. Schwind played for the Amsterdam Mohawks who
won the NYCBL championship earning First Team All-NYCBL
honors. Schwind was also named Most Valuable Player of the
NYCBL All-Star Game, batted .292 and led the team in runs
batted in (39), runs scored (31) and stolen bases (13).
