Hilton's Laura Iafrati third woman in field of 555 finishers in Rochester Marathon Sept. 18, 2011; 3,300 entrants; Northwood students run water station

Hilton High School 2005 graduate Laura Iafrati, now a University at Buffalo medical student, finished third at the Rochester Marathon, a Boston-marathon qualifier, Sept. 18, 2011.  Valedictorian and IB Diploma recipient, Laura captained the Girls Cross Country Team which went on six months later to win the NIKE Team Nationals in Portland, a feat that made Hilton sports history.

The Rochester Marathon with more than 3,000 entrants and 555 finishers, is a 26.2-mile endurance-run which followed a route from St. John Fisher College to Burgundy Basin Inn in Perinton, back to the city of Rochester's Frontier Field.

Supporting the runners along the way were sixth grade students from Northwood Elementary School in Laura Mayer's and Sarah Lintz's classrooms. "The marathon raises money for the Alzheimer’s Foundation," Mrs. Mayer said. "Students were happy to help and shared many stories of people from their own families who suffer from this disease."
