Hilton High School hosts seventh annual
"Runnin' Cadet Invitational Classic" May 5, 2012; 39 schools
to attend; special events: pole vault, steeplechase; events
start at 2 pm
Hilton High School, 400 East
Ave., Hilton, will be the site for the Seventh
Annual Invitational Runnin' Cadet Classic which
features the best in western NY high school Track
and Field beginning at 2 pm. The program
includes unique races including the "Saturday Night
Showdown". "Our dream has been to create an event
that pulls all the best athletes together into a one
heat/flight showdown to determine the champion,"
Hilton Cross Country/Track Coach Mike Szepanik
said. "Last year’s meet was considered to be the
most competitive and exciting meet in the area. I
think we have successfully pulled in the area's best
again this year. The events are filled with
defending State and Sectional Champions, as well as
future stars. This me et
has the potential to be the most exciting track meet
in the Rochester area again this year."

Brighton, West Irondequoit, Mendon, Sutherland, Wayland

(section 6), Edison, Starpoint (section 6), Williamsville
South (Section 6), Williamsville North (Section 6), Rush
Henrietta, Churchville-Chili, Harley Allendale Columbia,
Canandaigua, Wilson, Fairport, Penfield, Warsaw, Red Jacket,
School of the Arts, Franklin, Geneseo, Lakeville (section
6), East High, Olympia, Penn Yan, Williamson, Northstar
Christian Academy, Lancaster (section 6) and of course the
host school, Hilton.

UNIQUE FEATURES: “The Glavin”
secnd leg of the Fleet Feet Distance Runner of the
Year series presented by Nike “The Glavin” is in memory of
Pete Glavin, resident of the Hilton School District and
former meet director of the McQuaid Cross Country
Invitational. Pete’s influence on the Rochester area
running community extends well beyond McQuaid and Hilton.
Pete was also co-founder of the Genesee Valley Harriers.
Pete is and will continue to be missed. “The Glavin” is a
collection of the best distance runners in the area to run
3200m (boys) and 3000m (girls) and is part of the Fleet Feet
Distance Runner of the Year series presented by Nike. “The
Glavin” will be run during the Saturday Night Showdown.
New this year is the “Saturday
Night Showdown”. Athletes that advance to the
finals in select races 400m and down, selected field events
as well top seeded distance runners will face off in the
“Saturday Night Showdown”. This should prove to be an
exciting addition to the meet as we plan to highlight the
athletes and then watch the showdown as athletes showcase
their talents. Before each event participating athletes
will be announced and a short “Bio”
will be read. Top 3 will receive plaques and places 4-6
will receive medals and the Champion will receive Champion
T-shirt. Awards will be given out immediately following
each event.
Top Pole Vaulters will
be highlighted! The top male and female pole vaulters
including Karmen Auble from Warsaw are expected to vault at
night in front of the grandstand on a raised runway. This
will be the main field event during the Saturday Night
Showdown
The Cross Country Steeplechase:
cross country runners this is your chance to “get off the
track”. The event will be run at dusk. Athletes will start
with 1 ½ laps on the track with steeple barriers, then
athletes run off the track to run 800m loop on the grass
complete with hay bales and return to finish with a lap on
the track over the steeple barriers. The Cross Country
Steeplechase will kick off the Saturday Night Showdown.
