Hilton High School students and staff went above and beyond to help those less fortunate this holiday season. The first of three projects provided gifts for 14 residents of DePaul Assisted Living and Mental Health facilities through DePaul’s Holiday Helpers program. Students and staff purchased and donated the holiday wish list items and made 14 individuals’ holidays brighter. The school also collected various holiday gifts for children ages 0-10, such as toys, books, dolls, crafts, and games, that were donated to the Society for the Protection and Care of Children. In all, about 15 bags of gifts were donated! Lastly, Student Council set up a Giving Tree in the main foyer filled with ornaments with gift ideas that students and staff could purchase and donate to the Golisano Children’s Hospital. Shown are Student Council officers (l-r) Joey Piperni, president; Sydney Fisher, vice president; Olivia Koegel, secretary; and David Padoleski, treasurer. Many thanks to Hilton High School students and staff for their generous donations!

Students in Maria Vowles’ Forensics class at Hilton High School are working on their blood spatter lab this week. Students modeled different types of spatter patterns that result from injuries with various weapons, such as arterial spurting resulting from an injury to an artery. Students used syringes and fake blood to model blood leaving the body under pressure. They also modeled cast-off from a weapon – a popsicle stick in place of a knife – and saw the pattern that would result from blood leaving the weapon and casting onto the wall. Forensics is a half year elective for students grades 11 and 12.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our student & staff volunteers, community groups, and to those who donated food & clothing, recycled electronics & brought their documents for secure disposal during this year’s Make a Difference Day on Saturday. We are so proud of how our community comes together every year to #MakeADifference! And let’s not forget a shout out to Wegmans Latta Rd. for providing our volunteers with breakfast & lunch!

Today we celebrate Hilton graduates Will Caruso and Lucas Edsall, and Michael Coval and Alyssa Almekinder, who are working as machine operators at Sydor Optics and attending MCC majoring in optics. The grads took the Introduction to Optical Technology course at Hilton High School, which opened the door to this exciting field. Hilton High School also offers career fairs where students can get introduced to optics companies and then take advantage of job shadowing opportunities. Once hired, they may even be able to get their college courses paid for. Ann Marie Graham, Sydor Human Resources manager, said that the Hilton grads they have hired have a good work ethic. We are proud of our grads!
