Welcome to our newest staff! #Welcoming #Affirming #CadetProud

Seventh grade classes headed to the Aquatic Center today, but it wasn’t to swim. Science Teachers Reggie Gerig, Kirsten Meyers and Jennifer Maloney had their students do a human density activity as part of their Structure and Properties of Matter Unit. Sylvia Wittman and Tyler Newton volunteered to lower themselves into a barrel of water outfitted with a spout. Then their classmates used jugs to collect the water displaced by their bodies. Students poured the water into cylinders to measure how much water was being displaced.
“We just finished the density section of this unit and use this as an enrichment activity,” said Maloney. “Once we returned to the classroom, we used the data that we collected to find each student's volume, convert their weight into grams, and then calculated the density of each student.”
Classes also discussed how a human can float or sink in water.

Congratulations to seventh graders Julia Coon (left) & Elise Greiner for participating in the Junior Wind Symphony at Hochstein School of Music this fall. Julia plays bassoon & Elise plays flute.

Please note that Tuesday, Oct. 31 is a half day session for ALL students K-12. The printed calendar sent to homes incorrectly states that it is a half day for K-6. Students will arrive home approximately 4 hours earlier than normal.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our student & staff volunteers, community groups, and to those who donated food & clothing, recycled electronics & brought their documents for secure disposal during this year’s Make a Difference Day on Saturday. We are so proud of how our community comes together every year to #MakeADifference! And let’s not forget a shout out to Wegmans Latta Rd. for providing our volunteers with breakfast & lunch!

Seventh grade FaCS classes are setting their table for success! Teacher Claire Drexler took to heart Superintendent Dr. Casey Kosiorek’s Opening Day message about building an organizational culture that puts people first and provides a sense of safety and belonging. Together with FaCS teachers Anna Murrer and Megan Peterson, they created a “table” across several bulletin boards outside of their classrooms and had students write their recipes for success on paper plates. “Incorporating the recipe idea supports our health sciences curriculum and goal setting,” said Drexler. “These students are our family and we want our classrooms to be their comfort zone where they feel a sense of belonging.” Shown are (l-r) Cole Lenzi, Claire Drexler, Henrey Hunsinger, Ayden Jones, Evan Smith, Special Education Teacher Jamie Melos, and Megan Peterson.

Hilton CSD joins the digital commemoration #RemembertheSky as we mark the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. This digital commemoration is inspired by the clear blue sky that was present in New York City & across the country on 9/11, as well as by Spencer Finch’s art installation in the 9/11 Memorial Museum. His artwork, “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning,” is comprised of 2,983 watercolors — each a unique shade of blue — a tribute to the enormity of collective loss and the individuality of each of those who were taken from us far too soon. #neverforget911

Merton Williams decided to join in the fun and have their own Welcome Fest this year! During lunch, students ate outside and had a lot of laughs playing soccer, football and corn hole. 🏈⚽️It was a great way to blow off steam after adjusting to being back to school!
