Students from Merton Williams' Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club visited Village Elementary last week for a lesson in team building. Working with first graders they had to try and build as high a self-supporting snowman as they could using only spaghetti, tape and marshmallows. While it was fun, it also emphasized communication, collaboration and problem solving.

Teams at Merton Williams competed to donate the most food to the Hilton Food Shelf. Team Destiny donated the most and won a cider and donut party. Collectively the students and staff donated 400 items to the Hilton Food Shelf, which serves families in the Hilton School District.
Students pictured were top donators in the food drive: Henry Seifert, Nick Munding, Aria Romeo, Faith Kobela, Evelyn Pestilli, Austin Kinmond, Abrey Zadora.
The Hilton Food Shelf recently delivered 160 Thanksgiving dinners in the community, up from 110 last year.

Team Infinity from Merton Williams recently took all of their middle schoolers (110 students and 20 adults--including 11 parent chaperones) to the Memorial Art Gallery for a Look to Learn tour. During this tour, students participated in a small group docent-led tours titled “Learning to Look: An Introduction to the Gallery.”
After that. they took a short drive to view a famous piece of Rochester's history: the Clock of Nations. Prior to this visit, the students learned about the clock and its impact on our community & its history.

Members of the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)/Fun Club from Merton Williams spent some time with first graders at Village talking to them about being safe for Halloween. The club consists of 7th and 8th graders that work on empowering young peers to make safe, healthy choices in life. The club would like to create monthly events that support our district's goals and work hand in hand with peers throughout our Hilton Schools.

Students in Claire Drexler's Health Class at Merton Williams had a chance to develop their abilities in the kitchen and enjoy a delicious treat. Showing off their knife skills as well as how to core apples to make apple muffins.

What a great opportunity for Merton Williams students to learn about and help protect natural environments in our area. The 7th grade Health Science Teachers (Ms. Drex, Mr. Ellicott and, Ms. Peterson) chose students that have shown excellent character during class and their actions have aligned with our district goals. Some of these goals include, Being Curious, Being Non-judgmental AND Being a Welcoming person. As a reward, students participated in a field trip with other students. The field trip provided students the opportunity to complete a community service project that aimed to educate our youth about the importance of clean waterways and preserving our most precious natural resource. In an effort to do this we visit the Ontario Charlotte Beach / Park. Students helped clean up the beach, the area walkways and learn about Lake Ontario and the Genesee River.

It was quite a busy morning at Northwood today. Erin McBride's kindergarten class held a Memorial Day sing-along and Jennifer Sica's class held its annual "We Choose to Reuse Fashion Show. You can see more pictures from both events here: https://hiltonschools.smugmug.com/2024-2025/Northwood

What a great way to start the day yesterday at Merton Williams-the annual Grandfriends breakfast. Thanks to everyone who came to visit and to everyone who worked so hard to make it a success! There was even a chance to try out a new voting machine like the ones that will be used next Tuesday for the budget vote. A great opportunity for students in Sy Potter and Kelley Stoll's class at Merton Williams to gain first-hand knowledge about Cuba from one of their classmates. Addiel Marino-Calderon added details related to the book they are currently reading entitled, "Refugee." His parents, Maidely and Froylan also came in and taught the class how to Salsa.

What happens when your students raise over 1,000 items for the Hilton-Parma Emergency Food Shelf? If you're an administrator at Merton Williams, you get a pie in the face! Congratulations to the eighth graders who led the way in donations.
Yesterday, the SADD Club and the Best Buddie Club at Merton Williams joined up together for a “Spring Clean Up”.
Students along with the club advisors, (Ms. Brown/Mr. Weber Buddie club and Ms. Drexler SADD club) walked around the school picking up trash. They also cleaned up inside the building by taking old flyers off the walls. This was a great experience combining the 2 clubs. It gave students an opportunity to meet new friends as they gave back to their community.

Thanks to our friends from Foodlink and the Hilton-Parma Emergency Food Shelf for visiting Merton Williams to talk to students about the importance of donating to the school's current food drive.
