Mouse Trap, Connect Four, Bop It, Care Bears, Hess Trucks, Operation, pool, and the sled. All classic playthings, but if you had to choose which one belongs in the Toy Hall of Fame-which one would it be. Students at Northwood made their case for each one this morning, to judges, guests and peers. They set up displays and demonstrations to show why their pick deserved to be enshrined. In the end, the judge's selection ended in a tie between the Hess Truck and Operation. For the students-another tie! This time Bop It and Connect Four shared the honors. Fifth graders in Jennifer Sica's class at Northwood recently completed a service project. They collected money to purchase supplies for "Birthday Kits" or "Birthday Boxes". Inside each kit are the ingredients for a cake as well as balloons, birthday banner, birthday card, candles, and other party decorations. The kids collected the money for the supplies and then organized and wrapped the kits. They were able to make 16 birthday kits from their donations which will be donated to the Hilton Food Shelf.

Talk about an art project that is not only beautiful, but also serves a beautiful purpose. Northwood teachers Candice Hudson and Laurie Steele-Sperber wanted to contribute a piece to the Ronald McDonald House and the result was "Radiating HOPE", made up of hundreds of Northwood Student fingerprints. The artwork will be a permanent addition to the house. They also conducted a fundraiser which raised $300 and presented both to the Ronald McDonald House earlier this week.

It's off to the National Invention Convention for a pair of Northwood students! Livia Standing and Estelle Greiner were selected by judges this weekend at the Western New York Convention in Buffalo to move on to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
Livia created the Seal Swiper, a device that safely and cleanly removes the plastic from the top of condiment bottles and other household items. Estelle's invention, the Snow Snatcher keeps snow from falling onto your seat when you open your car door.
Congratulation and good luck to these incredible inventors!

You've probably heard the expression a rose between two thorns-is this the opposite of that? Spikes paid a visit to Hilton today to meet his friend Crimson (and Mr. Warren) to work on promotion for HCSD Night with the Red Wings on May 16th. Stay tuned for more details!

History came alive today at Northwood thanks to the students who make up Team Serenka/Weinstein. They put together a wax museum filled with notable figures from our past like Anne Frank, Rosa Parks and George Washington and from our present like Josh Allen and Christiano Ronaldo. All the subjects were chosen based on how they reflect one of the IB Learner traits; principled, reflective, balanced, caring, communicator, inquirer, knowledgeable, open-minded, and risk-taker. You can see more pictures from the museum here:
