Academic Intervention Services

Academic intervention services (AIS) is defined as additional instruction that supplements the instruction provided in the general curriculum and assists students in meeting New York State learning standards. Academic intervention services are intended to assist students who are at risk of not achieving the state learning standards in English language arts and mathematics, or who are at risk of not gaining the knowledge and skills needed to meet designated performance levels on state assessments. The District utilizes multiple measures (state assessment scores, student class work, teacher input, etc.) in determining whether a student should receive additional academic services.

Multiple Measures

  • Grades K-3 - Multiple measures might include screening tools, teacher observation, Literacy Profile and common assessments.

  • Grades 4-6 - Multiple measures might include screening tools, teacher observation, Literacy Profile, common assessments and NYS ELA and mathematics assessments (see chart below).

  • Grades 7-12 - Multiple measures might include screening tools, teacher observation, Lexile level, common assessments, NYS 7-8 ELA and mathematics assessments (see chart below) and NYS Regents Examinations.
