Reading Recovery

The Hilton Central School District has been a Reading Recovery®  district for over 10 years. Reading Recovery® is an effective early literacy intervention designed to significantly reduce the number of children with literacy difficulties in schools.

A trained and certified Reading Recovery® teacher works one-on-one with a student daily for 13 to 20 weeks. Every 30-minute session includes reading, writing and word study exercises entirely customized to the child's needs. Daily lessons incorporate essential components of reading instruction: phonemic awareness (ability to manipulate sounds in words), vocabulary, fluency (rapid, phrased reading), and comprehension. It is supplementary to classroom instruction.
